Smart Start industry sector growth trends are consistent with both the state and national economies, shifting away from manufacturing and moving toward services. The high number of construction and retail businesses reflect an economy moving towards recovery. According to Smart Start activity, limited liability companies and sole proprietorships are the most popular business structures chosen when forming a business in Connecticut.
Department of Banking Now Licenses Debt Negotiators  Thursday, December 03, 2009
During the 2009 legislative session, a new law was passed requiring the Department of Banking to license and regulate the practice of debt negotiation. Debt negotiation is the practice of assisting a person in helping to reduce, manage or settle their mortgage or debt owed to creditors. Companies that provide the services specified in the new law are required to be licensed as of October 1, 2009. There are certain exceptions - attorneys practicing law in Connecticut, banks and credit unions.

Starting October 1, 2009, filing and service fees increased at many of the state agencies.
Governor Rell Announces A New E-license System  Tuesday, July 28, 2009
The Departments of Public Health and Consumer Protection are participating in a new E-License system – an online renewal, verification and credential management system. Licensees can renew their licenses, change their address and request license verifications through this service. Other services are available to the general public such as license lookup.

Connecticut’s Insurance Department changes vendor for Pre-License Examination and Continuing Education. As of September 1, 2009, Prometric will replace PearsonVue to administer pre-licensing examinations and provide continuing education services
